Signac was born and died in Paris. He originally planned to study architecture, but upon getting
to know the Impressionist school, he decided to become an artist. In the circle of young arists
he was struck by the systematic working methods of Seurat, and his theory of colors. He became
Seurat's faithful supporter, and upon Seurat's death, succeded him as leader of the
Neo-Impressionists. Signac developed a personal style from Impresionism, a style that he
sustained until his death.
